Knowing Cancer, how it begins, and what to eat to help keep you cancer free.
Many people know about Breast Cancer. I knew about Breast Cancer, but I didn't really know until now. Breast Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of breast cells. Complicated? You have no idea.
Cancer is a result of mutation. Abnormal changes in genes responsible for regulating the growth of cells and keeping them healthy. Normally, the cells in our bodies can replace themselves through cell growth. The changed cell continues to divide without any control, producing 'twin' cells. Voila! And then you have a tumor.
A tumor can be either benign, not dangerous to your health, or it can be malignant. A tumor being malignant has the possibility to harm you, and possibly could be fatal. Benign tumors are not cancerous, they look normal, grow slowly, and do not invade other parts of the body. Malignant tumors are cancerous, and without treatment, the malignant cell can spread beyond the initial tumor and cause cancer to develop in other areas of your body.
My Grandmother has Malignant Breast Cancer, and now lung cancer, cancer of the kidneys, you name it. There is no getting better, its a matter of controlling the pain, and possibly slowing down the progression of the cancer. It simply spreads.
Breast Cancer is always caused by a genetic abnormality. But there are ways to keep it at bay. Exercise, eat healthy, stop smoking, no drinking, etc. There are foods that help prevent cancer as well:
- Foods containing Lycopene: Tomatoes, Watermelon, Pink Grapefruit.
Lycopene is a powerful Antioxidant, studies have suggested that people with a diet high in Tomato Products have a lower risk of Prostate, Lung, and Stomach Cancer. Lycopene may also protect against several other Cancers such as: Cervical Cancer, Breast Cancer, Cancer of the Esophagus, Pancreatic Cancer, Colon Cancer. Though, there is no proof.
- Flax seed: This grain is available as Flour, Meal, and Seeds.
Flax seed can be found in some Multi Grain Breads, Cereals, Breakfast Bars, and some muffins. It can be sprinkled onto Salads, Yogurt, and Smoothies. Flax seed is a good source of Lignans.
- Soy: Soy Beans (Edamame), Soy Milk, Miso, Soy Powder
Soy is a great source of protein. It is a number one choice of protein for Vegetarians and Vegans. There are a lot of phytochemicals in soy: Protein kinase inhibitors help keep cell growth and activity normal. Phytosterols and saponins help regulate cholesterol. Phenolic acid and phytates are antioxidants. Go Soy!
- Garlic
For many years, it is claimed that garlic can fight infection, and even Cancer. Garlic tastes great, and can be put in nearly every meal. Garlic can be found in it's natural form, as a powder, a paste, even minced in a jar.
There are several options to keeping Cancer away from your front door. Though none are proven to get rid of existing Cancer, or prevent Cancer, it couldn't hurt. It couldn't hurt to be healthy. My Grandmother says to shop the perimeter of the store. There you will find your fresh vegetables, whole grains, yogurts, fresh fruit, fresh meats, fish, eggs, cheese's, etc. Love your Boobies, Love your life.
